Public Docs - Howto

Provo City posts the agendas for Council Meetings (and Work Meetings) on-line. Along with the agendas, all of the material that Councilors are given to prepare for the meetings, are also posted.

If you want to engage with the Council, whether it is for an occasional item or to become a professional watch dog, I recommend learning how to access this information.

Provo's City Council uses a software platform called SIRE. It's not the most user friendly, so I'll walk you through the basic steps for agenda's and supporting material.

1. Go to http://publicdocuments.provo.org/sirepub/meet.aspx . It'll look something like:

2a. If you click on the pdf symbol on the far right, you'll download a nicely formatted pdf of the agenda, but not any of the support documents.

2b. If you click on the "Agenda" link, a new tab will open with a nicely formatted html of the agenda, with an added bonus of links that take you to a list of supporting documents or that particular item (if any). (The names of the files are often fairly cryptic. I generally have to click through all of them to find what I'm looking for.)

2c. If you click on the "View" link, you'll be taken to a page that lists all of the supporting documents for all items on the agenda. Just above the supporting documents you'll see an "Agenda" cell which has links to the pages described in 2a and 2b. Next to it is a cell called "Agenda Packet" which has all of the support documents compiled into a single pdf file.

I hope this helps. If you have questions after trying this out, leave a comment below and I'll improve this howto.
